Events January 2012 AIBD Georgia Society Meeting Notificationg To all State Members and Interested Parties, -- ___
The October 2010 Meeting at Reynolds Plantation Below please enjoy pictures (below) taken from our most recent state meeting held at Reynolds Plantation and hosted by the AIBDGA Society with planning by Robert Steverson with Linger Longer Homes. The event started Friday morning with sign in and registration at the Linger Longer Homes Corporate Office. We were then taken on a tour of Reynolds Plantation with stops at one of the beautiful architecturally fascinating clubhouses. Evident was the attention to detail in the construction and the design. From there we went to the Nature Center at the Historic Hunting Lodge, where elements of the past greeted our group as we studied the construction of the building and the information that the Nature Center provided about the all of the animals and reptiles that are native to the area. We were introduced to the original Reynolds Home that is over 100 years old. After a sumptuous lunch we held our Executive Board Meeting, as spouses and members settled into their different lodgings. On Friday afternoon, we were transported to two homes in Reynolds Plantation. The Earth Home and Idea Home abounded in information and construction techniques. As we were allowed to roam these homes, there were on site docents to answer our questions or direct our attention to certain areas of interest in design and construction. That evening, members and our spouses were treated to a delicious dinner prepared especially for us by the premier chefs at Reynolds Plantation. Music during dinner was soothing and delightful. After dinner, the members were surprised by an impromptu game of” the Nearly Newlywed Game “. Thank you to our participants and our winning couple Wanda Harvil Smith and her husband Ralph. On Saturday we arrived at the Plantation Clubhouse and enjoyed breakfast, before we began our design charrette. The charette was about a country gentlemen called “Bubba” and his charming girlfriend Bambi. After given a list of this delightful couple’s wants and desires we were challenged to meet their needs in a design. There were two teams and we had an hour to accomplish this dynamic exercise. The spouses judged the results. In a totally fair and balanced manner, they declared the exercise a tie. How smart the people to whom we are married.

___ Notes from the July 28 Meeting of The American Institute of Building Design, Georgia Society The July meeting of the Georgia Society of the American Institute of Building Design was at Huber Engineered Woods in Commerce, Georgia. The first part of the meeting was instruction in the topic of Clearing the Fog: Water, Air & Vapor Management in Today's Wall and Roof Assemblies. This was a great explanation of the design of building envelopes and how to properly insure their construction. The class gave some insights into the future codes and requirements that will involve the materials and methods. After lunch the balance of the afternoon was spent in the opportunity to see how the information that we received that morning could be applied in practical building methods. Well attended the whole event was one of our best educational events. AIBD Georgia Society wishes to extend much deserved thank you to Huber Engineered Woods. I would like to extend a big thank you to our state members who attended and contributed to the success of this meeting. Thank you, -- 770-460-6774 (Office) ___
___ Review and Report of the American Institute of Building Design Georgia Society June State Meeting: The June 19, 2010 state meeting in Savannah was a huge success. At 7:30 AM, with a good turnout in place, we sat out on “The Early Bird’s Walking Tour”. The tour was informative as well as inspirational. Our well versed guide led us on an insightful look into the architectural preferences and construction of Isaiah Davenport. From his well known home on East State Street to the various homes and buildings he constructed, we were familiarized with the history and infused with the imagery of Isaiah Davenport’s time, culture and the city he loved. As always Savannah is hospitable and entertaining. Even though the temperatures were [let us say] elevated, the early morning time frame compensated for the heat. We had an extended meeting in the cool lush garden of the Davenport House, where we were served refreshments. Later, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Pirate’s House [which in and of itself is worth the trip]. I want to thank member spouses for attending; they made a great tour even more enjoyable. The photographs herein are an example of the tour.

January 27, 2010 - AIBD State Meeting Notes The meeting was at the Historic Train Depot in Fayetteville, Georgia. We met there and then walked to the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum, which is housed in the Holliday-Dorsey –Fife House. Deborah Riddle (the docent dressed in period costume) gave a thorough and delightful history of the house and its many inhabitants and visitors. From Doc Holiday through Margaret Mitchell we were told stories of all those who had an impact on Fayette County and Atlanta. Once Deborah completed her talk we were allowed to tour the museum and enjoy its many displays and historical representations. The attendees returned to the Train Station for the meeting and Dinner. The meeting minutes will be posted later under our Committee Reports Area on our web site where you can review in detail the actual meeting. We did have a review of the Mid-year Winter National Meeting held in Las Vegas. Officers for the 2010 year were sworn in and the meeting schedule for the New Year was presented. The dinner was a great meal of Italian cuisine prepared by Anthony’s in Fayetteville. Enjoy the Photos shown here and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
Yours truly, Gary Baumgardner CPBD
